Confidence Is a Field, Not a Feeling

A short note on how HECAVEX will communicate analytical confidence and distinguish evidence from inference.

Confidence describes the quality and consistency of the evidence supporting an assessment. It does not describe how strongly an analyst likes the conclusion.

HECAVEX will use plain low, moderate and high confidence labels where they add information. A label will not rescue an unsupported claim: the underlying evidence, assumptions and limitations still need to be visible.

This distinction is especially important when infrastructure is shared, resold, compromised or deliberately imitated. Correlation begins an investigation; it does not automatically finish one.
